It is also known as peanut or arachis oil and is made from the edible seeds of the peanut plant. Though the groundnut plant flowers above ground, the seeds develop underground, that is why the name. Groundnut oil is a natural, sweet and nutty flavoured edible oil. It is extracted from pressing groundnut kernels. In addition to extracting the oil, groundnuts are eaten raw or roasted, and used in cooking and bakery as well. Cold pressed groundnut oil is best for consumption purpose.
